A Goal-Directed Shortest Path Algorithm Using Precomputed Cluster Distances

چکیده

This thesis introduces a new acceleration heuristic for shortest path queries, called the PCD algorithm (Precomputed Cluster Distances). PCD precomputes shortest path distances between the partitions of the input graph, which can be obtained by any graph partitioning method. Since the number of partitions can be varied between one and the number of nodes, the method presents an interpolation between all pairs and ordinary single source single target shortest path search. This allows a flexible trade-off between preprocessing time and space on the one hand and query time on the other, allowing significant speedups even for a sublinear amount of extra space. The method can be applied to arbitrary graphs with non-negative edge weights and does not afford a layout. Experiments on large street networks with a suitable clustering method are shown to yield average speedups of up to 114.9 for PCD as a stand-alone method. Furthermore, the algorithm’s space-efficiency, simplicity, and goal-directed behaviour make PCD an alternative method to provide other acceleration heuristics with goal-direction.

Finding the k Shortest Paths in

A concurrent-read exclusive-write PRAM algorithm is developed to nd the k shortest paths between pairs of vertices in an edge-weighted directed graph. Repetitions of vertices along the paths are allowed. The algorithm computes an implicit representation of the k shortest paths to a given destination vertex from every vertex of a graph with n vertices and m edges, using O(m + nk log 2 k) work an...

Querying Shortest Path Distance with Bounded Errors in Large Graphs

Shortest paths and shortest path distances are important primary queries for users to query in a large graph. In this paper, we propose a new approach to answer shortest path and shortest path distance queries efficiently with an error bound. The error bound is controlled by a user-specified parameter, and the online query efficiency is achieved with prepossessing offline. In the offline prepro...

Acceleration of Shortest Path and Constrained Shortest Path Computation

We study acceleration methods for point-to-point shortest path and constrained shortest path computations in directed graphs, in particular in road and railroad networks. Our acceleration methods are allowed to use a preprocessing of the network data to create auxiliary information which is then used to speed-up shortest path queries. We focus on two methods based on Dijkstra’s algorithm for sh...

Two fast algorithms for all-pairs shortest paths

In a large, dense network, the computation of the ‘distances’, i.e., the shortest path lengths between all pairs of nodes, can take a long time with algorithms known from the literature. We present two all-pairs shortest path algorithms, based on the equations of Bellman. These algorithms run fast, much faster than indicated by their time complexity bound of O(n2m), where n is the number of nod...

A new approach to all-pairs shortest paths on real-weighted graphs

We present a new all-pairs shortest path algorithm that works with real-weighted graphs in the traditional comparison-addition model. It runs in O(mn+n2 log log n) time, improving on the long-standing bound of O(mn + n2 logn) derived from an implementation of Dijkstra's algorithm with Fibonacci heaps. Here m and n are the number of edges and vertices, respectively. Our algorithm is rooted in th...
